When you’re looking to shave shots, it makes sense to get your approach as close to the flag as possible. But this tends to lead you into traps. When you’re a good lag putter, you take the pressure off needing to get close to the flag. However, effective lag putting is almost impossible if your putter isn’t fit for you.
Lag putting is all about distance control, and distance control requires consistent impact. There are two fitting benchmarks that affect your impact location which we’ll need to assess during a putter fitting.
A lie angle that raises the toe or the heel of the putter causes an impact bias towards the raised point. This causes you to lose speed and accuracy, making distance and direction control really tough.
Generally, the more arc you have in your putting stroke, the more toe hang you’ll require in order to square the face and keep everything in line at impact.
Unlike hitting 275+ metre drives and laser-accurate long iron shots, putting is a skill that all golfers can get extremely good at. Let’s make sure you’re properly equipped for your journey to putting mastery. Book a fitting now!
